Alan Fischer is an accomplished teacher specializing in operatic character development and audition presentation for singers. For nearly the past 25 years, Alan has been the Chair of the Vocal Music Department at the Governor's School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia where he developed a very successful classical vocal music program with an emphasis on opera and art song. Mr. Fischer has directed all across the United States and has directed and conducted more than 35 opera productions at The Governor's School for the Arts where some of his students have gone on to have major international careers singing at the top opera houses around the world. Alan has given master classes throughout the USA, and he has been recognized by the North Carolina School for the Arts as a 'Teacher of the Year', and recognized as a 'Super Teacher' by The Frost School of Music in Miami for his work with young singers.As a performer, Alan began his professional singing career at age of six as a soloist with the Metropolitan and New York City Opera Children's Choruses and he maintains over 50 character and supporting tenor roles in his repertoire and has performed with many American companies and in Europe. Alan graduated from City College of the City of New York majoring in Psychology and Education and attended the Goldovsky Opera Institute sponsored by the New England Conservatory of Music.Alan is currently directing Die Fledermaus for Martina Arroyo Foundation's Prelude to Performance in New York City, and will direct Shakespeare in Opera, a concert of operatic scenes, for the Tidewater Opera Institute in Virginia, before joining Premiere.
