Luis Ledesma

Voice teacher & baritone

Mexican baritone Luis Ledesma appears regularly with opera companies in Europe and the Americas. In addition to traditional bel canto roles, he is frequently cast in new works in Spanish. Internationally, he has performed with Teatro alla Scala, Liceu Opera Barcelona, Wexford Festival Opera, Semperoper Dresden, Oper Köln, Savonlinna Opera Festival, Opera Națională București, Oper Graz, Hungarian State Opera, Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, Opéra de Montréal, and Teatro Municipal de Santiago, among many others.

In the United States, Mr. Ledesma has sung with Houston Grand Opera, Washington Opera, New York City Opera, Arizona Opera, Connecticut Opera, Florentine Opera, Florida Grand Opera, Michigan Opera Theatre, Minnesota Opera, New Jersey Opera, and Opera Pacific; and the opera companies of Indianapolis, Kansas City, Madison, Memphis, Nashville, Palm Beach, Portland, and San Antonio. He toured twice with Andrea Bocelli to venues such as Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl, and the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City.

Mr. Ledesma made his Carnegie Hall debut in Faure’s Requiem and returned for Dvorak’s Te Deum. He has performed Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony with the Philadelphia Orchestra and with the Chamber Orchestra of Philadelphia. Other orchestral appearances include the Louisville Orchestra, NDR Radiophilharmonie, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Orquesta Filarmónica de Jalisco, and Orquesta Sinfónica del Principado de Asturias.

Mr. Ledesma has served as the artist in residence and a voice instructor for emerging artists at Oberlin in Italy. He is a member of the faculty of the Academy of Vocal Arts and joined the adjunct faculty at the Curtis Institute of Music in 2019.
